Overview

IM3I (Intelligent Multimedia Management and Interaction) was a European research project that addressed the rapid growth of digital multimedia content and the need for smarter ways to manage, analyse, and reuse it across the web. The project focused on combining multimedia analysis, semantic technologies, and service-oriented architectures to support scalable, intelligent media management and interaction in heterogeneous digital environments.

Within IM3I, IN2 played a central role in the design and development of the multimedia management platform, contributing its expertise in web-based media systems and content services. IN2 worked on defining and implementing workflows for ingesting, processing, annotating, indexing, and publishing large volumes of multimedia content, ensuring that research outputs could be applied in real operational contexts.

A key aspect of IN2’s contribution was the integration of intelligent media services—such as analysis, metadata enrichment, search, and interaction—into a coherent, modular platform. This service-oriented approach enabled flexible deployment, reuse of components, and adaptation to different application scenarios, including media publishing, content monitoring, and digital storytelling.

The project builds the foundation for our MyMeedia platform and delivered an open architecture with integrated services and advanced solutions for experiencing, searching and accessing creative audio-visual content. It focused on enabling intuitive media production and supporting creative industries in delivering new forms of interactive, immersive and very high quality media.

Alongside IN2, as the project's scientific and technical manager, the following organisations formed the consortium:

  • Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, The Netherlands (Coordinator)
  • Spring Techno GmbH & Co. KG, Germany
  • Neos Sistemi Srl, Italy
  • National Audiovisual Archive, Hungary
  • Music Information Centre Austria, Austria
  • University of Firenze, Italy
