Overview
IC-IC (Enhancing interconnectivity through infoconnectivity) was a European FP7 project focused on improving the interconnectivity of short- and long-distance passenger transport networks through passenger-centred, interlinked information services. The project addressed a key gap in intermodal travel: the lack of timely, relevant information for passengers when transitioning between transport modes, locations, and service providers.
At the core of the project was the development of an InfoConnectivity System (ICS), involving major European airports—Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt, Paris, and Vienna—along with airlines and ground transport providers as key stakeholders. The ICS aimed to provide travellers with currently missing but highly desired information about their next immediate destination or transport connection, including wayfinding, lost and found, health and vaccination requirements, security procedures, immigration, customs, check-in, and onward ground transport and ticketing.
IN2 participated in the first half of the project, contributing to the specification and design of the ICS concept and system framework. Drawing on its expertise in digital platforms and user-centred service design, IN2 helped define how passenger-focused information could be delivered during waiting and transition moments—such as on trains, buses, in airport lounges, or on board aircraft—using mobile technologies including QR codes, NFC tags, and other ICT-enabled interaction mechanisms.
