Project - GAMA -- Gateway to Archives of Media Art

European portal for discovering, accessing, and reusing media art archives.

Duration

Overview

GAMA set out to establish a central European platform and search portal for media art, enabling multilingual, user-oriented access to a significant number of media art archives and their digitised collections. By aggregating content through one common interface, the project aimed to make media art easier to find, explore, and reuse across borders.

The consortium brought together a majority of the most important digital content holders for media art in Europe, representing a substantial share of what European libraries had already made available online. By pooling this material into a single access point, GAMA aimed to significantly increase the use, re-use, and cross-border visibility of digital media art content.

Within this context, IN2 contributed to the definition, specification, and implementation approach for a platform that supports aggregation, indexing, and discovery of heterogeneous archive content through a unified user experience. IN2’s work focused on shaping how diverse collections could be brought together and exposed through a coherent interface, supporting both expert and general audiences.

In addition, IN2 handled day-to-day project management, coordinating collaboration across partners and supporting smooth delivery of work plans, milestones, and dissemination activities. Through this combined technical and operational role, IN2 helped position GAMA to evolve into a central online interface for anyone interested in media art in Europe.

Alongside IN2 as the day-to-day project manager, the following organisations formed the consortium:

  • University of Bremen, Germany (Coordinator)
  • Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien, Austria
  • Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza, Poland
