Project - ASSISTANT -- Aiding Sustainable Independent Senior Travellers to Navigate in Towns

Building modular service architectures and enhanced map intelligence for scalable digital platforms.

Financed by
Active Assisted Living (AAL) Programme
Duration

Overview

IN2 contributed to the ASSISTANT project by leading the design, development, and integration of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) that provided a modular, scalable foundation for the platform. This architecture enabled the seamless interaction of distributed services, supporting flexible deployment, interoperability, and long-term maintainability across the system.

The company was responsible not only for SOA development but also for its set-up, operation, and maintenance, ensuring reliable service orchestration and smooth communication between components. This work established a robust backend capable of supporting evolving functional requirements and integrating both internal and external services.

In parallel, IN2 developed the “Map Enhancer” module, a key functional component designed to enrich map-based applications with additional contextual information and enhanced interaction capabilities. The module improved the usability and expressiveness of spatial data by layering semantic, visual, and functional enhancements on top of existing map services.

Together, these contributions strengthened the technical backbone of the project, enabling richer user experiences and more efficient system operation. By combining SOA expertise with targeted module development, IN2 ensured that the platform was both technically robust and functionally extensible, supporting future growth and reuse.

Alongside IN2 who was subcontracted in the project, the consortium was composed by the following partners:

  • Fundación Tecnalia, Spain (Coordinator)
  • Andago Ingeniería S.L., Spain
  • Citruna Technologies Oy, Finland
  • E-Seniors, France
  • Fara OY, Finland
  • Transport & Travel Research Ltd, United Kingdom
  • University of Vienna, Austria
  • VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Finland
