Kicking Off NewsArcade Classroom: Gamifying Media Literacy in Education

We are thrilled to announce the launch of NewsArcade Classroom – "Seriously Play the News in the Classroom!", a new EU co-funded project that officially started in January 2025.

Building on the success of the previous NewsArcade project, which introduced an innovative gamified format for news content to enhance young adults’ media literacy, NewsArcade Classroom takes this concept a step further. This time, the focus is entirely on education, tailoring and optimizing both the format and its authoring tool specifically for classroom use.

Empowering Educators & Students Through Gamified News Storytelling

With NewsArcade Classroom, we aim to expand and refine the best practices established in the original project by:
✅ Developing new educational formats designed to improve media literacy instruction.
✅ Providing educators with cutting-edge tools for creating and delivering interactive news-based learning experiences.
✅ Equipping students (ages 12-25) with essential skills in critical thinking, digital literacy, and media analysis—all through immersive and gamified storytelling.

Beyond the technical and educational innovations, the project also strengthens international collaboration. Partner organizations from Cyprus, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, France, and beyond will work together to exchange expertise, share best practices, and foster a more interconnected European media literacy landscape.

A Strong Start in Nicosia

To kick off the project, the IN2 team joined our consortium partners in Nicosia, Cyprus, hosted by DIAS Media Group. This meeting was a great opportunity to align on the project’s vision, plan the next steps, and connect with old and new partners.

As in the previous project, IN2 will take the lead on the technical development, spearheading the design and implementation of the content management system that will power the creation of NewsArcade stories.

We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to contributing to such a vital societal challenge. Stay tuned for updates as we bring NewsArcade Classroom to life!
