Overview
NewsArcade@Classroom is a European Union–funded initiative that builds on the previous NewsArcade – Seriously Play the News! project to bring interactive, gamified media literacy education into classrooms. The project transforms real news stories into engaging learning experiences, empowering students aged 12–25 to think critically about the news, understand media production, and develop digital literacy skills through immersive activities and storytelling
A core element of the project is the enhanced authoring tool, customised for classroom use, which allows students and teachers to create, explore, and analyse news content in a playful yet educational environment. Alongside the tool, NewsArcade@Classroom produces teaching resources, professional development support, and curriculum materials to help educators integrate gamified news education effectively into their lessons.
The project promotes critical thinking, media analysis, and collaborative learning by encouraging students to identify biases, evaluate credibility, and deconstruct media narratives. It also fosters peer-led engagement by creating opportunities for youth to share insights, co-create media literacy experiences, and contribute to knowledge-sharing communities across Europe.
NewsArcade@Classroom brings together partners from Cyprus, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, and France, and involves broad activities such as youth forums, workshops, and cross-border collaboration to exchange best practices and strengthen the European media literacy landscape. Key outputs include a State of the Art Report, educator handbooks, workshops, and a community of practice that supports long-term adoption and impact.
